It is used as a biocide and preservative and is used in numerous cosmetic products such as toothpaste, antibacterial hand washing soaps, disinfectants and cleaning products.<\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.annualreviews.org\/doi\/10.1146\/annurev-pharmtox-010715-103417\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Triclosan<\/a>\u00a0accumulated, with chemical\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/echa.europa.eu\/documents\/10162\/fbbd46b2-f92e-d84e-4540-6e6b292751dc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Longevity<\/a>, evidenced by its increasing use in aquatic organisms worldwide. It is characterised here by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/echa.europa.eu\/documents\/10162\/fbbd46b2-f92e-d84e-4540-6e6b292751dc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Very high toxicity<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/echa.europa.eu\/documents\/10162\/fbbd46b2-f92e-d84e-4540-6e6b292751dc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0and is therefore dangerous for the environment<\/a>. In addition, it will be\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/transparency\/regdoc\/rep\/1\/2018\/EN\/COM-2018-739-F1-EN-MAIN-PART-1.PDF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Review of Regulation (EC) No 1223\/2009<\/a>\u00a0of the European Parliament in November 2018 as a presumptive\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/agderma.de\/en\/topics\/what-are-endocrine-disruptors\/\">endocrine disruptor<\/a>\u00a0named.<\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1080\/10937404.2017.1399306?journalCode=uteb20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The following health disorders<\/a>\u00a0are suspected to be caused by triclosan:<\/p><ul><li>Decrease in fertility<\/li><li>Risk increase for abortions<\/li><li>Decrease in weight, height and head circumference of infants<\/li><li>Limited epidemiological evidence for allergic diseases\u00a0<\/li><li>Increase in blood levels of markers of oxidative stress and the thyroid hormone triiodothyronine.\u00a0<\/li><li>Possible growth of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.annualreviews.org\/doi\/10.1146\/annurev-pharmtox-010715-103417\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Liver tumours and inflammation of the liver<\/a><\/li><\/ul><p>In 2006, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bfr.bund.de\/cm\/343\/triclosan_nur_im_aerztlichen_bereich_anwenden_um_resistenzbildungen_vorzubeugen.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR)<\/a>\u00a0from large-scale use in households because of the fear of bacteria developing resistance. In 2017, scientists from the University of Birmingham published a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.birmingham.ac.uk\/news\/latest\/2017\/07\/study-links-antibiotic-resistance-to-triclosan.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Study<\/a>which showed that germs that were resistant to quinolone antibiotics (e.g. clioquinol) also showed defence mechanisms against triclosan.\u00a0<\/p><p>By decision of 08.02.2016 of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/DE\/TXT\/PDF\/?uri=CELEX:32012R0528\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EU Biocide Regulation<\/a>\u00a0 triclosan was banned for use in hygiene products that are applied to large areas of the skin. However, triclosan is still used in products such as toothpaste, soaps and shower gels and as a biocide in doctors' surgeries and hospitals.<\/p><p>In dermatology, triclosan is also a component in some extemporaneous preparations (NRF 11.135 and NRF 11.122) and individual prescriptions.<\/p><p>Clinics and practices are therefore recommended to subject the prescription or use of triclosan-containing topical preparations to close scrutiny.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5361cbc elementor-widget elementor-widget-toggle\" data-id=\"5361cbc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"toggle.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-toggle\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-toggle-item\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-title-8741\" class=\"elementor-tab-title\" data-tab=\"1\" role=\"button\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-8741\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-toggle-icon elementor-toggle-icon-left\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-toggle-icon-closed\"><i class=\"fas fa-caret-right\"><\/i><\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-toggle-icon-opened\"><i class=\"elementor-toggle-icon-opened fas fa-caret-up\"><\/i><\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a class=\"elementor-toggle-title\" tabindex=\"0\">References and legal information<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-8741\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"1\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-8741\"><p>\u00a9 Dr. med.
