The healthcare system causes more than 5% of total greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. In 2021, the German Medical Association therefore decided that climate neutrality in the healthcare sector should be implemented by 2030 (Bundesärztekammer 2021). Quality management (QM) is an existing tool that can support practices in implementing this resolution. In addition, QM systems must be expanded to include sustainability management (NM) that takes environmental and social aspects into account.
