Sustainability in medical practice: medical care during extreme weather events

CME online seminar on Saturday, 16 November 2024, from 9:00 to 14:00.

Information on the event and registration can be found here.

Overview:

The World Health Organisation (WHO) describes climate change as the greatest threat to health worldwide in the 21st century. The climate crisis is also increasingly being felt in Germany, with increased heatwaves and extreme weather events, among other things. In principle, it affects everyone, but the chronically ill, the elderly and poor, pregnant women, babies and children, as well as people who work outdoors, are particularly affected. This poses new challenges for all healthcare professionals.

From the perspective of "Medical care during extreme weather events", the speakers will address the topics of care in clinics and practices for vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly and the chronically ill, prevention, care and treatment during weather events such as thunderstorms, heavy rain, floods and hurricanes, as well as medical care from a pneumological (including asthma) and dermatological perspective (including increased UV radiation, skin cancer).

Important: The symposium is applied for as part of the BÄK curriculum "Climate Change and Health", which comprises a total of 20 hours. As a doctor, you can choose to complete this module with at least 6 CME points as an individual course or gradually complete the entire curriculum over 2 years.
